Thanksgiving Etched Glass Mirror

on November 1, 2016
Hi, Friends! I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween night and that you were all able to sneak your favorite candy from your trick-or-treater.. not that I would do that! #candyfiend

Thanks for all of the love on yesterday’s wallpaper post! I’m just tickled every single time I walk into my would-be Game Room! Only nine days left – but who’s counting?

Today, I have a simple glass etching decor DIY for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday season that I hope you’ll enjoy.

The first Tuesday of the month means it’s time for the November Create with Me DIY Challenge! This fun challenge is where you, our readers, vote on the projects we’ll work on each month. Last month, you all voted for our group to create something about glass etching – which reminds me; be sure to scroll to the very last bit of this post to vote for next month’s project theme before you go!

Using my Silhouette, vinyl, glass etching cream and an old mirror I had hanging around, I was able to create something perfect for a Thanksgiving vignette.

The stencil design can be found in the Silhouette Store and needed no editing.

I cut the stencil from vinyl and removed the center of the letters and leaves. Using transfer adhesive paper, I transferred the vinyl stencil to the center of the mirror.

Using a small brush, I applied an even coat of the glass etching cream over the stencil on the mirror and let stand for 5-6 minutes. Next, I removed the cream with a damp cloth. I wasn’t able to run water over the mirror as it had a paper backing, but the cloth did the trick.

Then, I removed the vinyl, leaving the etched pattern behind! At first, I was a little concerned that I’d not left the cream on long enough – the etching does not show on wet glass – but once the mirror was dried, I could clearly see the design.

My etched glass mirror will be just perfect for my Thanksgiving display in a few weeks.

Now, we need YOUR help! Take the survey below and tell me what you want to Create with Me for December!

Wonderful idea! I love that it's personalized to the holiday and can be brought out each year and used to decorate around.
